How We Make Our Papers

The Papermaking requires different steps to break down the fiber into pure pulp. First the outer bark of the Lokta has to be peeled off and washed in fresh water. The bark is cut into smaller pieces and put in boiling water to become soft. The rough strings of fibers are beaten with wooden mallets to a homogenous paste. The paste is washed in fresh and cold water to be evenly spread onto a cotton frame. The frame with a smooth layer of pulp is then left to dry in the sun. After some sunny hours the beautiful Lokta paper, prized for its rough but attractive texture, durability and strength is collected.
